The Children’s Ministry That Could Change the Rainbow Nation
It is the best of times and the worst of times for representatives of Gospel Light Worldwide (GLW) in South Africa. Political upheaval and civil unrest there have cast a dark shadow upon the diverse population of the “Rainbow Nation.” But, as conditions there grow increasingly more dangerous, the GLW mission to bring “One Million Children” into relationship with Jesus remains stalwart.
Debbie Sourgen a native South African who has successfully managed GLW’s “iVangeli” curriculum project there for five years, is beginning preparations to hand her responsibilities over to a qualified leader so she may join the GLW team at our Ventura, California headquarters. Debbie has been working closely with her successor and is very encouraged by their time together, remarking, “She’s so enthusiastic about learning from me.”

August 5, 2008 - The Summer Games begin this week focusing all eyes on Beijing. Gospel Light Worldwide has issued an Olympic challenge that carries double blessings and eternal consequences.
Gospel Light Worldwide has been preparing for China since 2003. Gospel Light Worldwide helps children enter and grow in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through culturally relevant, locally published Bible resources and teacher training.
Recently, Gospel Light Worldwide received a $50,000 commitment to help bring God’s Word to the children of China but there was a hook. The contributor will only give GLW the $50,000 when they raise another $50,000 in new gifts.
Bringing God’s Word to Children is Our Only Priority
The Gospel Light Worldwide (GLW) ministry is and has always been focused exclusively on bringing God’s Word to children around the world. We are passionate about it and have recently felt called to pray for God’s direction in redefining our ministry focal point.
Our prayer brought us “One Million Children”, a mission to help One Million Children around the world enter and grow in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Children Emerging as Unexpected International Ministry Priority
According to the International Children’s Ministry Institute, Child Evangelism Fellowship and other respected organizations, somewhere between 83 – 86% of Christians worldwide become believers between 4 and 14 years of age. Yet, ministry to children has traditionally been seen as less important than with adults . . . until now.
Gospel Light Worldwide President Marc Stein says, “Even if the percentage is 67% as suggested elsewhere, it is an astonishing statistic and understandably most people are shocked to learn that young people make up such a large percentage of all new believers globally. There is definitely a change in the wind and children are emerging as an international ministry priority.”
